My Quinoa Burger recipe will have you salivating and running after seconds! It is prepared using cooked quinoa, aromatic Indian spices, and chickpeas as a binding agent finishing it off with fresh cilantro. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love a good old fashioned beef burger but ever since I started making my Quinoa Burgers, I don’t miss the beef burgers as much!.
My love affair with Quinoa started about 10 years ago when I started exploring healthy alternatives for rice and bread. I started off hating the taste of Quinoa to falling in love with it during my 10-year journey. What I love about Quinoa is that it adapts really well to any type of flavor. I have experimented with tons of quinoa recipes using flavors from all over the world and have never been disappointed with the results.
What is Quinoa?
You have to be living under a rock if you have not heard of Quinoa by now. Quinoa is a grain that belongs to the Amaranth family and comes in white and red color. It is extremely high in protein and has tons of health benefits. You can learn more about Quinoa’s health benefits here.
What is the difference between white or red Quinoa?
If I am in the mood for warm quinoa I personally prefer to cook the white quinoa as it is fluffier when it is cooked and has a mild taste. For all my salad recipes, I prefer to use the red quinoa as it is chewier and has a nuttier flavor.
Are Quinoa Burgers Gluten-Free and Vegan?
Yes, this recipe is 100 percent gluten free and vegan!
Can you use an Airfryer to prepare Quinoa Burgers
Although I prefer to pan-fry them in a cast-iron skillet, the burgers can certainly be prepared using an Airfryer. It took me 5 minutes on each side to cook the burgers on a cast-iron skillet, so you can use this as an estimate for the time frame in an Airfryer.
How else can you enjoy the Burgers?
Just because this recipe is of a Quinoa Burger, it doesn’t mean that you can only enjoy it as a burger. The cooked patties can be used in sandwiches, tortillas (Collard greens if you are grain-free) with naan, or just by itself dunked in chutney or even ketchup! The choices are endless!
Can you freeze the Quinoa Burgers?
Absolutely!! Cook, freeze and enjoy later. Just remember to separate them with a parchment paper so that they stick together. They are good for up to 1 month in a freezer.

How to prepare the Quinoa
I used my instant pot to prepare the Quinoa or if you don’t have one, you can prepare it by following the instructions at the back of the packet. I used 1 cup of quinoa and 1.5 cups of vegetable broth (you can use water too) and pressure cook on high for 5 minutes with natural pressure release.
How to assemble the Burger
You can assemble the burger however you please but I love to enjoy it with a toasted brioche bun, freshly made guacamole, and some lettuce or sprouts with a dollop of olive oil mayonnaise.
- Add all ingredients in a food processor and pulse till you are left with a thick batter (it should not be runny)
NOTE: If you don’t have a food processor, you can blend everything in a large mixing bowl. Just remember to chop your onions finely or you can even grate them and squeeze out the water - Allow to cool in a refrigerator for an hour
- Form patties of your desired size and cook in a cast-iron skillet for 5 minutes on each side or till it has a deep golden crust
