INGREDIENTS

1 cup of black-eyed peas- washed and soaked. I only soaked them for 5 min

1 large red onion finely chopped

3/4 cup of tomato sauce (i used a canned sauce)

Fresh ginger and garlic grated

1 tsp of turmeric powder
-
1 tsp of coriander powder
-
1 tsp of cumin powder
-
1 tsp of cumin seeds
-
2 tsp of garam masala
-
Salt to taste

2 tablespoons of neutral oil

Cilantro for garnish
Lobiya/black-eyed pea curry is a go to recipe for me. It’s simple to make especially if making it in your instant pot, and delicious to eat!
- Turn the instant pot on high saute mode
- Add oil and once the oil is heated add cumin seeds
- Once they start popping add the onions and cook them till they are golden brown
- Then add your tomato sauce, all the masalas and salt
- Cook on low saute with the lid closed for 5 min
- Then add your beans
- Mix everything well. Cancel saute mode, pressure cook for 55 minutes and let the pressure release naturally
- Once cooked, garnish with cilantro and enjoy with fresh jeera rice, roti or any grain of your choice
