INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup of black-eyed peas- washed and soaked. I only soaked them for 5 min

  • 1 large red onion finely chopped

  • 3/4 cup of tomato sauce (i used a canned sauce)

  • Fresh ginger and garlic grated

  • 1 tsp of turmeric powder

  • 1 tsp of coriander powder

  • 1 tsp of cumin powder

  • 1 tsp of cumin seeds

  • 2 tsp of garam masala

  • Salt to taste

  • 2 tablespoons of neutral oil

  • Cilantro for garnish

Lobiya/black-eyed pea curry is a go to recipe for me. It’s simple to make especially if making it in your instant pot, and delicious to eat!

  1. Turn the instant pot on high saute mode
  2. Add oil and once the oil is heated add cumin seeds
  3. Once they start popping add the onions and cook them till they are golden brown
  4. Then add your tomato sauce, all the masalas and salt
  5. Cook on low saute with the lid closed for 5 min
  6. Then add your beans
  7. Mix everything well. Cancel saute mode, pressure cook for 55 minutes and let the pressure release naturally
  8. Once cooked, garnish with cilantro and enjoy with fresh jeera rice, roti or any grain of your choice
