INGREDIENTS

  • 3 cups of Maida (All purpose flour)

  • 1/2 ghee (clarified butter)

  • 1/2 cup of water for kneading the dough

  • 2 tsp of salt

  • 2 tablespoons of Ajwain (you can adjust this according to your taste)

Mathris are a perfect tea time snack and they taste even better with achaar (pickle). Traditionally these beauties are deep fried are slightly bigger in size, but I decided to give them my spin by making them into bite size pieces and air frying them. Healthy, vegan, and a delicious snack!

  1. Knead your dough with maida, ghee, salt, Ajwain and water as needed. I used Ninja Food Processor (special blade for kneading dough)
  2. You want to knead the dough till it is soft
  3. Cover the dough with a damp paper towel and set it to rest for 15-20 minutes
  4. Take a large ball of dough, roll it out and using a cookie cutter, cut it into your desired size and shape
  5. With a fork pierce holes in the mathri so that they don’t rise during cooking
  6. Using a pastry brush, coat the mathris with a little oil
  7. Place them in the air fryer and cook for 4
  8. Minutes on each side at 400 degrees (timing will depend on your airfryer)
  9. The mathris should be golden brown in color
  10. Enjoy with pickle and a cup of tea!
