Jeera Aloo is a very popular Indian vegetarian dish which is prepared with potatoes and cumin seeds and other aromatic Indian spices. Potatoes are boiled and then quickly tempered in onions and a mix of spices and topped with fresh cilantro and lemon juice.
I have to warn you that Jeera Aloo is a very addictive dish so make EXTRA as it will disappear in minutes. This is a perfect weeknight dinner that will save you tons of time in the kitchen.
What kind of potatoes do I use for Jeera Aloo?
You can use any type of potatoes but I love making this dish with baby potatoes. I love the fact that you just peel them and use them and there is no cutting of potatoes required.
Can I use cumin powder instead?
We do use cumin powder in this recipe but the star ingredient of this dish is Jeera (cumin seeds). We add them to hot oil and wait for them to start popping which is where the magic happens.
Can I use sweet potato fries instead?
Yes but the flavor and taste will be completely different as they are sweet.
Can I meal prep for Jeera Aloo?
Yes, you can boil the potatoes the night before and refrigerate them and them use them when you are ready to cook.
